Philosophers: Then and Now.

I liked Voices of Wisdom. This book is a very educational tool. It covers ideas and articles from such philosophers as Jean Paul Sartre, David Hume, Socrates, and etc... The book has a wide variety of ideas, and arguments. This book is good for a student just beginning to learn philosophy. I would be pleased to recommend this book to anyone curious about the subject.

this book is good if you want what the person actually said. but if your an idiot like meee then you wont be able to understand it. I liked the Buddha, Martin Luther King, Dalai Lama and Dave Wong. I hated the rest w.e screw them.

What a cool book! Used often as a required textbook for Philosophy 101 classes, this is a valuable reference for a lifetime. Most of the book is multi-page excerpts from some of the great thinkers in human history. Plato, Laozi, James, Martin Luther King, Engels, Nietzsche, Dalai Lama, Richard Dawkins, Kuhn, on and on. It's neatly organized into twelve chapters; within each there are about six excerpts from different books with an insightful introduction and reading questions. Chapters include Is There a god? Is Knowledge Possible? What Am I? and other non-trival questions.
Reading this comprehensive anthology gives a broad literate education without the months (years?) it would take to read through all the original texts, if you could somehow know what they'd be. A worthwhile reference and a jumping off point into some classic books of human thought.
